Having recently passed the California LS exam I’ve been asked about recommended study aids by several LSIT and PLS candidates. My unhesitating answer: “buy a copy of John Butcher’s ’LS Review Compendium’, thoroughly review each section and work through the practice problems – you’ll be prepared for your exam”.
I’ve studied and passed other professional exams (Arizona Professional Land Surveyor’s exam and California State Bar) from which I have learned the most important factor for success, aside from devoted personal study, is the quality and efficient content of your study material. After researching and assembling various LS review study material I decided to exclusively use John’s Compendium as a single source preparation course which, I confidently say, resulted in my passing score. This is really all you need to be fully prepared. I can’t overstate my appreciation for this manual which benefitted myself personally as well as the California land surveying profession. John’s Compendium is an exceptional manual for the survey student and professional – highly recommended.

Passing the LSIT is not a "walk in the park". There is a lot to study and a lot to learn. Learning your programs, without a doubt made my test taking experience easier.
